Random Acts of Kindness Week

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.  —Aesop

We can’t believe that we didn’t hear about this until today. This week is Random Acts of Kindness Week from February 13 – 19, 2012.  We stumbled upon the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation website while doing research for another blog post, and are super excited to share what they are doing with all of you. The mission of the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation is to inspire people to practice kindness and to pass it on to others. Each day this week they will be announcing new kindness ideas and will be challenging you to participate.

Everyday this week we will be posting things on the We’re So Inspired blog, Facebook page, and Twitter feed to inspire you to do random acts of kindness.   We highly recommend checking out the Random Acts of Kindness foundation website to get more ideas and getting involved.

What random acts of kindness are you going to perform this week? What was the last random act of kindness that someone did for you?

World Happy Day

The greatest lesson I learned while making this film is that my pursuit of happiness is not about me. It’s about our relationships and how we help each other. It’s about us. —Roko Belic, Director of The Happy Movie

On Saturday February 11, 2012, thousands of people will come together all over the world to experience the Happy movie and celebrate World Happy Day.

“World HAPPY Day inspires action for increasing happiness in our own lives and in the world. A growing body of research shows that happy people are healthier and live longer. They are more likely to care for the environment and less likely to commit crimes or go to war. Happy people help others more often… and are more likely to find creative solutions. Increasing happiness benefits us as individuals and communities in infinite ways and is a goal worth sharing.”

To join in the happiness, find a screening of the Happy movie near you.

The Secret to Happiness

About 5 years ago I was going through a rough patch and was really down in the dumps. I couldn’t find pleasure in anything. A close friend asked me what I was grateful for in my life. I thought about it for a while, but before I could answer him, he interrupted. He said, “lets make this easier, what are you grateful for TODAY?” And that was how my gratitude project started. Every night before I went to bed I wrote down 10 things that I was grateful for that day. Unfortunately, it only lasted for about a month. Then today I came across this video and it has inspired me to pick up where I left off.

The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker.

—Helen Keller, American author, political activist, and lecturer

Today marks the 10th anniversary of 9/11. So in honor of those who lost their lives, saved lives on 9/11 and those who continue to sacrifice their lives, we are going to take notice of 10 things that are right with the world 10 years later.

What’s Right With The World

The other day I found The Bold Life, a blog by Tess Marshall which she describes as “a delicious and juicy mix of inspiration, spirituality, and personal development.” On one of her latest posts she writes, “It’s very important to notice what’s right about the world. Let’s talk about that, build upon it, grow it. Make a big freakin’ deal about it!” And then goes on to list 52 things that are right with the world to get the positivity started and challenges others to do the same. So here I am, taking on the challenge and sharing it with all of you in hopes that you will continue the chain of positivity. We liked the idea so much that “what’s right with the world” will become a regular feature.  Here’s the first of many.

On the Road Less Traveled

Last Friday April 29, my wife and I set out on an adventure. We terminated the lease on our apartment, put everything we had left in a 10′ x 10′ storage locker, returned our leased car and headed out of town with two small suitcases our laptops and a camera. We started in Los Angeles on our 30 day U.S.A. Amtrak Rail Pass, heading south through San Antonio and Austin and New Orleans which is where we are now. We leave tomorrow for Chicago then to Michigan, Indianapolis, Washington DC, Providence Rhode Island, Boston, Portland Maine, Philadelphia, Connecticut and ending in New York.

When we left last week we thought we would have enough time to continue posting here, but quickly realized that it wasn’t realistic during our busy travel.  So for now we are going to take a short break, but we will be back soon with more inspiration. We will continue to post occasionally on Facebook and Twitter so please “follow” and “Like” us.

We posted this quote when we first launched this blog but feel it is again appropriate for this next adventure.

Explore. Dream. Discover.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
