Kindness is Contagious

No kind action ever stops with itself. One kind action leads to another. Good example is followed. A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees. The greatest work that kindness does to others is that it makes them kind themselves.—Amelia Earhart

Kim, one of our readers, sent over the trailer for the documentary Good Virus, Kindness is Contagious that we thought was fitting for Random Acts of Kindness Week. Watch the trailer after the jump.

Random Acts of Kindness Week

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.  —Aesop

We can’t believe that we didn’t hear about this until today. This week is Random Acts of Kindness Week from February 13 – 19, 2012.  We stumbled upon the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation website while doing research for another blog post, and are super excited to share what they are doing with all of you. The mission of the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation is to inspire people to practice kindness and to pass it on to others. Each day this week they will be announcing new kindness ideas and will be challenging you to participate.

Everyday this week we will be posting things on the We’re So Inspired blog, Facebook page, and Twitter feed to inspire you to do random acts of kindness.   We highly recommend checking out the Random Acts of Kindness foundation website to get more ideas and getting involved.

What random acts of kindness are you going to perform this week? What was the last random act of kindness that someone did for you?

World Happy Day

The greatest lesson I learned while making this film is that my pursuit of happiness is not about me. It’s about our relationships and how we help each other. It’s about us. —Roko Belic, Director of The Happy Movie

On Saturday February 11, 2012, thousands of people will come together all over the world to experience the Happy movie and celebrate World Happy Day.

“World HAPPY Day inspires action for increasing happiness in our own lives and in the world. A growing body of research shows that happy people are healthier and live longer. They are more likely to care for the environment and less likely to commit crimes or go to war. Happy people help others more often… and are more likely to find creative solutions. Increasing happiness benefits us as individuals and communities in infinite ways and is a goal worth sharing.”

To join in the happiness, find a screening of the Happy movie near you.

The Secret to Happiness

About 5 years ago I was going through a rough patch and was really down in the dumps. I couldn’t find pleasure in anything. A close friend asked me what I was grateful for in my life. I thought about it for a while, but before I could answer him, he interrupted. He said, “lets make this easier, what are you grateful for TODAY?” And that was how my gratitude project started. Every night before I went to bed I wrote down 10 things that I was grateful for that day. Unfortunately, it only lasted for about a month. Then today I came across this video and it has inspired me to pick up where I left off.

Pick your Battles

Pick Your Battles screenprint by designer/illustrator, Nick Agin

A more peaceful way to live is to decide consciously which battles are worth fighting and which are better left alone… Is it really important… that you confront someone simply because… he or she has made a minor mistake?… Does a small scratch on your car really warrant a suit in small claims court?… These and thousands of other small things are what many people spend their lives fighting about… If you don’t want to ‘sweat the small stuff,’ it’s critical that you choose your battles wisely.
— Richard Carlson, author of Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

One of these ‘Pick Your Battles’ prints by designer/illustrator, Nick Agin would serve as a great reminder of Dr. Carlson’s great life advice. Words to live by, in work, life, and love.

What’s Right With The World

The other day I found The Bold Life, a blog by Tess Marshall which she describes as “a delicious and juicy mix of inspiration, spirituality, and personal development.” On one of her latest posts she writes, “It’s very important to notice what’s right about the world. Let’s talk about that, build upon it, grow it. Make a big freakin’ deal about it!” And then goes on to list 52 things that are right with the world to get the positivity started and challenges others to do the same. So here I am, taking on the challenge and sharing it with all of you in hopes that you will continue the chain of positivity. We liked the idea so much that “what’s right with the world” will become a regular feature.  Here’s the first of many.
